What happen Minten?

This is Monday morning, as usually Minten who lives in Gunung Kidul goes to school by bicycle. Her house is very far from her school, it is about 5 kms. As we know that the topography of Gunung Kidul is very dry, it is so difficult to find water in this area around by karst mountain. Most all of the society work as a  farmer, minner, fisherman. Minten is a student in 2nd grade of senior high school. Although Minten lives in village, but she always goes to school everyday and never give up to reach her dreams. Minten is one of the smart student in her school, so she always get first grade in her school. In her village, usually women who have graduate from junior high school didn’t continue in senior high school but they have marriage by their parents. Fortunately, Minten can continue her study until now but it’s not easy to get her dream. Sometimes, she gets some barriers when she tried to catch her future. According to her friends, Minten is very a beautiful girl which has long black hair, white skin, and a beautiful eyes.

            “ Ten, let’s go to school, i do not want to came late.” Said Ratih. “Of course, i do not want to came late too.” Replied Minten. They arrived in school early. “good morning Ratih and Minten?”, said Mr. Sigit (a new teacher in this school).”good morning Sir!” replied them.

“You are very dilligent student, you always come to school early, never come late.”

“oh thank you Sir, actually we are not as dilligent as you thought” said Minten

“really? I don’t think so, by the way, where is your house?”

“my house is not so far from Mintens house, but it is very far from our school. It is about 5 kms from here.” Said Ratih

“wow, what a strong girl you are.”

“ do you think that we are wonder women Sir?” replied Minten

(they laugh together and then the bell was ringing)

“the bell was ringing, let’s go to your class.”

“ok sir.”

This morning Mr. Sigit taught in Minten class. Almost the student love him so much because he is almost the perfect teacher.

            At 12 o’clock, they went to home by riding their cycle. In the way, they talk about Mr. Sigit lessons, then they laugh together before separate each other.

“assalamu’alaikum.”

“wa’alaikumsalam, oh my dear Minten,you have came back from school.”

“yes maam. What can I do for you Mam?”

“ oh no thank honey, you’d better have lunch, pray and then take a rest”

“thank you Mam, i love you.”

After take a rest, Minten help her parents and she prepares to attends traditional dancing class. In her village, it have to able to dance for every woman. Every two days in a week, she always learn to dance in Romo Manguns house.

“have you got pray Minten?” said Romo Mangun.

“yes, I have got it Romo.”

“ok, let’s start learn to dance with your friends.”

“yes Romo.”

Minten and her frinds start to dance with background gamelan sounds.

            Romo Mangun is one of the honor man in Minten village, altough he was old but he never say die to teach some children and teenagers to learn gamelan and traditional dance. He ever say that he would give her material and soul to this culture. Usually the society ask to Romo Mangun to make a social decision, he can called as a decision maker because of his shrewdness.

After getting dancing class, Minten come back to her house and prepares for her study tomorrow. Suddenly her parents closer to hers with a pail face.

“what are you doing Minten?”

“nothing Mam, Dad! What’s wrong?”

“no honey,  all is well. But there is a problem.” Said Minten Dads

“what’s problem Dad?”

Minten begins to cry, she feels sad if her parents sad. Mintens Dad begins to tell the problem to Minten. The problem is complex, they have not enough money to pay Mintens study, they ask to Minten in order to married with a man. But Minten does not want to married, because she wants to continue her study. Minten can not sleep, she can not imagines if she has to leaves her study and married with a man. On the other hand, she does not want to see her parents are sad.

            At the morning, as usually Ratih come to Mintens house to take her, but she was absent for several day. Time after time, Minten was still absent. In the school, her friends and her teachers very confused. So, Mr. Sigit ask to her friends to visit to Mintens house. They arrive in Mintens house, Mr. Sigit begins to open the dialogue with Mintens parent.

            “why did Minten do not go to school , Sir? Are there some problems?” asked Mr. Sigit. “yes Sir, the problem is very complex, Minten wants to continue her study, but we have not enough money for it. So, we suggest her to married.”clear Mintens Dad

“what? Married? Minten is too young to be a wife, and she is very smart, next year she will gets final examination.”replied Mr. Sigit shockly.

“we  know that it’s very impossible, but however it’s the best choice.”

“No Sir, i think that is not the best choice, i will try to find another way.”

            In the school, Mr. Sigit told this problem to some teachers and the principal. They discuss to solve this problem. After several times, they get a decision to give Minten a scholarship. Minten is smart and dilligent student, so she is respectable to get it. It’s a good news for Minten and also for Mr. Sigit. After school, Mr. Sigit and Ratih go to Mintens house to tell this information.

“Minten!!! I have a good news for you.” Shouted Ratih

“a good news? For me?” said Minten

“yes Minten, Mr. Sigit will tell to you and your parents.”

“ ok, sit down please, i will call my parents.”

            While minten is calling her parents, Mr. Sigit and Ratih chat each other. They are very happy because Minten can continue her study.

“i am sorry Sir and Madam, if I come to Mintens house again, but today i’d like to inform you about a good news.”said Mr. Sigit to open the dialogue.

“oh no Sir, we have to thank to you because you help us to solve for Mintens problem. And what is the good news.”replied Mintens parent.

“oh never mind, i will very happy if i can help to solve my students problem. And the good news is Minten can continue for her study  because from school, we’ll give Minten a scholarship until she passes her final examination well.” Said Mr. Sigit

Minten was surprissed and very happy. She hugs Ratih and her mother. This moment is very touchig their heart.

            Minten came back to school to continue her study until passes the final examination. She gradutes with the best score and work in on of the big factory to save money for study in university. She does not continue her study in university for a year. After a year, she continues her study and Mr. Sigit ask her to be his wife.

            Finnaly, Minten and Mr. Sigit were married, and they life happily ever after
